students putting potatoes in tubs

In 5th grade science classes with Mrs. Reichardt, students are learning how animals get what they need to learn and grow. Each class set up an experiment using mealworms, so that they can gather evidence for changes in their mealworm's bodies.  First, students weighed a potato slice. Next, they added several mealworms to the container. Then, they reweighed the tubs of potato and mealworms, and recorded the beginning mass. In class, they made predictions for how the potato and mealworm weights will change over time. Students will check back in a few days and make observations to see if the mealworms ate and will calculate the changes in the mass of the potato and mealworm weights.
