Students holding paper lanterns

Our second grade classrooms ended their core knowledge language arts unit "Early Asian Civilizations" with different celebrations! Students in Mrs. Van Wie's class made paper, while students in Mrs. Ewers & Mrs. Winter's enjoyed ice cream cups. Students in Mrs. Kolb's class made Chinese paper lanterns. Both paper and ice cream are Chinese inventions! Throughout this CKLA unit, students learned about how ancient Asian civilizations formed around mighty rivers. They learned the different aspects that make up a civilization, such as jobs, leadership, and different religions. The students are excited to move on to the next unit, another ancient civilization...Greece!
