October 11 was Fire Prevention Day at MED, a student favorite! Volunteer firefighters from the Chatham, Ghent, East Chatham, and Spencertown fire companies came out to talk fire safety with our students and show them all that cool firefighting gear! As is MED tradition, a staff member was "volunteered" to become an honorary firefighter by dressing up in the heavy duty protective clothing firefighters wear when on the job. This year it was MED secretary Jessica Williams. After the morning assemblies, the firefighters assisted the school in conducting a fire evacuation drill, then went classroom to classroom to share more fire safety tips with each class. Then they headed to the cafeteria to enjoy lunch with the students. It seems the firefighters always visit MED on a Friday (Pizza Day). Hmmm, a coincidence?
