Student volunteers undertook National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) leadership training last week at CMS. Hosted by the CMS counseling department, this training was led by guest NCBI trainers Tawana Davis and Ira Baumgarten from Russell Sage College. Select eighth graders devoted two days to discussing school culture, identifying differences and commonalities, appreciating diversity, creating a forum to discuss bullying behaviors, and ways to create a welcoming and respectful school environment. With their NCBI training now completed, these newly minted student leaders will present positive relationship-building activities for our sixth graders later in the school year. NCBI has been an integrated part of the CMS character education program for over 15 years.
